John was born in 1703 in Fittleworth and his baptism took place there on December 28th, 1703.1  John's father was William Steer and his mother was Jane Young.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Elizabeth Croucher. He had a brother named William.  He was the younger of the two children.
