Maud's father was Michael Hill Skinner and her mother was Ellen (Helen) Bainbridge. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Skinner and Emma Hill; her maternal grandparents were William Bainbridge and Sarah Quickfall. She had three sisters named Elizabeth, Sarah and Betsy.
