Elizabeth was born in 1761 and her baptism took place on March 13th, 1761 in Methwold.

Elizabeth's father was Richard Flatt and her mother was Mary Wortley.  Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Flatt (of Methwold) and Elizabeth; her maternal grandfather was Thomas Wortley. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Joseph, Richard, Ann and Hannah.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
