Maud was born in 1892 in Bromley and her baptism took place there on September 18th, 1892.1 2  Maud's father was William Henry Distell and her mother was Mary Ann Read.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Distill and Ellen Mould. She had a brother named William.  She was the younger of the two children.
