Hestor was born in 1831 and her baptism took place in 1831 in Witson, Wales. Hestor's father was Samuel Curnock and her mother was Rachel. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Curnock and Hannah Close. She had two brothers and a sister, named Samuel, William and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the four children.
