Alfred's father was Job Beaven and his mother was Jane Long.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mitchell and Betty dJoshua Beaven. He had a brother and a sister, named George and Caroline.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Nathaniel, Job, Mark, Luke, Hannah, Jane and Eliza.
