William was born in 1826 and his baptism took place on August 13th, 1826 in Petworth.1  William's father was Benjamin Steer and his mother was Elizabeth Dillaway. He had a brother and a sister, named Benjamin and Maria.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1827.  He was buried on March 12th, 1827 in Petworth.2
