Thomas was born in 1769 and his baptism took place on February 19th, 1769 in Pulborough.1   Thomas' father was Thomas Steer and his mother was Sarah Henson. He had four brothers and a sister, named James, William, Philip, Daniel and Charlotte.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
