Michael was born in 1832 and his baptism took place on April 1st, 1832 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1   Michael's father was John Steer and his mother was Eliza steer. He had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Stephen, Jesse, Eliza, Sarah and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
