David was born in 1783 and his baptism took place on November 9th, 1783 in Egdean Sussex.1   David's father was John Steer and his mother was Mary Hersee. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Richard, John, Susanna, Mary, Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
