Catherine was born in 1890 in Bristol.1  Catherine's father was George Steer and her mother was Alice Phillips.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Jane Hunt. She had a brother and a sister, named George and Mary.  She was the youngest of the three children.
