Adelaide was born in 1869 in Fittleworth Sussex and her baptism took place on December 26th, 1869.1  Adelaide's father was Thomas Steer and her mother was Elizabeth Hannah Samphire.  Her paternal grandparents were James Steer and Ursula Steyning. She had three sisters named Elizabeth, Mary and Caroline.  She was the youngest of the four children.
