Jane was born before 1788 and her baptism took place on November 16th, 1788 in Aveton Gifford Devon.1   Jane's father was James Steer and her mother was Mary Wilton. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, Richard, Molly and Joanna.  She was the youngest of the five children.
