Ruben was born about 1875 in Rotherham, Yorkshire.1   Ruben's father was Charles STEER and his mother was Elizabeth STERR (STEER). He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Wilfred, Charlotte and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
