Nellie was born about 1899 in Oldham Lancashire.1   Nellie's father was George William STEIR and her mother was Hannah STEIR. She had a brother and three sisters, named Wilfred Arthur, Annie, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
