William Clayton was born about 1903 in Deepcar, Yorkshire.1   William Clayton's father was Arthur STEERS and his mother was Catherine STEERS. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel Clayton, Thomas, Annie Elizabeth, Alice and Beatrice Charlesworth.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
