Walter was born about 1881 in Woodford Northants.1   Walter's father was Joseph STEERS and his mother was Elizabeth STEERS. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William M, John, Thomas Arthur, Frank, Ann Maria, Gertrude and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
