Thomas was born about 1888 in Tintwistle, Cheshire.1   Thomas' father was William E STEERS and his mother was Lydia Kirkham.  His maternal grandfather was James KIRKHAM and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had a brother and a sister, named James and Jessie.  He was the youngest of the three children.
