Edwin was born about 1850 in Chatham Kent.1   Edwin's father was Henry STEERS and his mother was Emma STEERS. He had a brother and four sisters, named Henry, Alice, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Emma.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
