Alexander was born about 1879 in Brentford Middlesex.1   Alexander's father was William R STEERS and his mother was Mary J STEERS. He had five brothers and five sisters, named William R T, Horace G, Joseph M, Bertie E, Sidney H, Nellie J, Daisy, Mary E, Caroline M and Lily N.  He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.
