William was born about 1894 in Carshalton Surrey.1   William's father was Steer and his mother was Emma Seal.  His maternal grandfather was Thomas SEAL and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Margareta and Emma.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
