William was born about 1878 in Bovey Tracey Devon.1   William's father was William STEER and his mother was Susanna STEER.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Halien, Mary and Martha.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
