Thyrza was born about 1860 in Colebrook, Devonshire.1   Thyrza's father was Samuel STEER and her mother was Elizabeth STEER. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Richard, Ellen and Alice.  She was the oldest of the five children.
