Thomas was born about 1839 in Limpsfield Surrey.1   Thomas' father was James STEER and his mother was Hannah STEER.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Henry, James, Mary Ann, Patience, Hannah, Eliza and Emma Maria.  He was the oldest of the eight children.
