Thomas was born about 1850 in East Grinstead Sussex.1   Thomas' father was John STEER and his mother was Jane STEER.  His paternal grandfather is <Unknown> and his paternal grandmother was Elizabeth STEER. He had a brother and three sisters, named Elias, Elizabeth Mary, Hannah and Clara.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
