Thomas was born about 1854 in Whitstone, Cornwall.1   Thomas' father was John STEER and his mother was Mary Ann STEER. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Henry I, John Goodman, William, Eliza Ann and Ellen.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
