Thomas was born in 1856 in Eltham. Thomas' father was William STEER and his mother was Elizabeth MIFFLIN.  His paternal grandparents were John STEER and Esther MARSHALL. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, John Benjamin, George Alfred, Harry Harding, Elizabeth Miflin, Kezia Esther and Emma Maria.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 15 in January 1871 in Eltham.  He was buried on January 29th, 1871 in St John the Baptist, Eltham, Kent..1 2
