Joseph was born about 1853 in Sancreed, Cornwall.1   Joseph's father was Joseph STEER and his mother was Honor Jelbert Nicholas.  His maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William N, John G N, James, Honor J and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
