John was born about 1859 in Winsford, Somerset.1   John's father was Joseph STEER and his mother was Mary STEER.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had a brother and two sisters, named James, Elizabeth Jane and Mary Jane.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
