Harriet was born about 1846 in Ashton-Under-Lyne.1   Harriet's father was Steer and her mother was Sarah STEER. She had a brother and four sisters, named Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, Maria and Adelina.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
