George was born about 1900 in Portslade, Sussex.1   George's father was Thomas STEER and his mother was Catharine STEER. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Arthur T, Ernest A, Frederick W, Florence K, Ellen and Annie.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
