George was born about 1870 in Devon.1   George's father was John STEER and his mother was Eliza Pearse.  His maternal grandfather is <Unknown> and his maternal grandmother was Elizabeth PEARSE. He had a brother and three sisters, named Jeffery, Mary, Martha and Eliza.  He was the youngest of the five children.
