George was born about 1887 in Derby Derbyshire.1   George's father was George STEER and his mother was Hannah STEER. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named William, Frederick, Frank, Thomas, Harry, Sidney, Percy, Margaret and Nellie.  He was the second youngest of the ten children.
