George was born about 1876 in Riseley, Bedfordshire.1   George's father was John F STEER and his mother was Elizabeth STEER. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Bertram, Archibald, Laura and Beatrice.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
