Edwin was born about 1872 in Newton Saint Cyres, Devon.1   Edwin's father was Simon STEER and his mother was Mary STEER. He had a brother and four sisters, named Sydney John, Mary Ann, Grace Harding, Susan and Emily.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
