Clara was born in 1852 in Lambeth, Surrey..  Clara's father was Charles Thomas STEER and her mother was Frances Juliet CAMERON.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry George STEER and Elizabeth LAWRENCE. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Charles Thomas, Alfred Alexander, Catherine and Margaret Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the five children.
