Charles was born about 1872 in South Perrott, Dorset.1   Charles' father was Edwin STEER and his mother was Sarah STEER. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William James, Fred, Burtie, Mary Ann and Bessie.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
