Joseph was born about 1879 in Spitalfields, Middlesex.1   Joseph's father was Joseph STEARS and his mother was Anna STEARS. He had a brother and three sisters, named Samuel, Alice, Anna and Leptheple.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
