Elizabeth was born about 1862 in Sussex.1   Elizabeth's father was William STEARS and her mother was Mary STEARS. She had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Thomas, William, Flora, Rhoda and Emely.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
