James Herbert was born about 1886 in Dodworth Yorks.1   James Herbert's father was James STEAR and his mother was Mary Ann STEAR. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Sam, John Walter, Frank, Sarah Ellen, Gertrude and Doris.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
