Elsie was born about 1897 in Grimsby Lincolnshire.1   Elsie's father was Jasper STEAR and her mother was Alice STEAR. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Jasper George, Harry, Adolphus, Amelia, Irene Iris, Ada, Nelly and Gladis.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
