Thomas was born about 1850 in Wimbledon, Surrey.1   Thomas' father was Thomas MAXSOM and his mother was Sophia MAXSOM.  His maternal grandfather was James STEERS and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had three sisters named Mary Ann, Lydia and Sophia.  He was the oldest of the four children.
