Ann was born about 1861 in Middlesex.1   Ann's father was Thomas ESSAM and her mother was Sarah ESSAM.  Her maternal grandfather was John STEERE. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Emily and Nelly.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
