Thomas was born in 1861 in London.1 Thomas' father was Capt Ralph Bradford and his mother was Amy. His paternal grandparents were Sir Thomas Bradford and Mary Ann. He was the second of four children. He had a brother and two sisters, named Henry, Mary and Lucy.
