Stephen was born in 1774 and his baptism took place on May 22nd, 1774 in Amersham. Stephen's father was William Lane and his mother was Mary Rance.  His paternal grandparents were John Lane and Mary Costard. He had a brother named Luke.  He was the older of the two children.
