Ambrose was born in 1835 in Farnham Royal, Bucks and his baptism took place there on October 20th, 1835.^1 2

Ambrose's father was James Clarke and his mother was Lucy Saunders.  His maternal grandparents were Charles Saunders and Anne Burnhams. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Henry, Charlotte, Eliza, Emma and Kitty. He had an adopted sister named Anna.

‌Ambrose and Ezit were married.  They had three daughters named Ezit, Emma and Mary.
