Margaret was born in 1843 in Vauxhall, Surrey.¹

Margaret's father was John Brown and her mother was Margaret (Mahony). She had three brothers and three sisters, named Nicholas, John, James, Mary, Catherine and Honoria. She was the second youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 39 in 1882.
