Nicholas, known as Nick, was born in July 1969.  Nick's father is Michael William Aspell and his mother is Elizabeth Sparkes.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas James Alfred Aspell and Grace Riley; his maternal grandparents were Claude Edward Sparkes and Esme Sheila Richardson.  He is the oldest of two children.  He has a sister named Claire.
