James (Jas) Absalom Green 
James, known as Jas, was born on May 7th, 1840 in Milson's Point, NSW.1 Jas' father was George Green and his mother was Maria Bates. His paternal grandparents were Amaziah John Green and Mary Ann Chapel; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Bates and Ann Griffin. He had six brothers and four sisters, named George, Henry, Richard, Robert, William, Charles, Mary, Agnes, Sarah and Charlotte. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 71 on December 31st, 1911 in Riverton, Southland, New Zealand.2 Death Notes

"An old resident of Riverton, Mr James A. Green, died at his residence on December 31, at the age of 72 years. He was born in Sydney, where he worked in his father's, workshop as a boat-builder. He accompanied his father to Riverton in the year 1861 or 1862, and had resided in the Western. District ever since. Mr Green took a keen interest in the annual aquatic festival in Riverton. He built many boats for racing purposes, noted amongst which was the dinghy in which W. Boniface won the Dunedin Exhibition all-comers’ race."
