George was born in 1838 in Stratfield Saye.  George's father was Daniel WHEELER and his mother was Charlotte ALLEN.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel ILSLEY and Frances WHEELER; his maternal grandparents were Thomas ALLEN and Jane. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, Daniel, William, Elizabeth, Ann and Cecilia.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
